A
lady came into the store one fine September day,
obviously doing a bit of early shopping for the season. She looked
frantic and quickly browsed around. With frustrated apprehension, she
came up and said, "I don't see any Toy Story toys".
I told her we were out of stock and they would be coming in soon.
"Do you know where to buy Toy Story toys?"
With the usual stock answer, I told her she could buy them online.
After grunting with a mild disapproval, she proceeded to pace around
again, up and down the aisles and came back to the counter again and
this time asked, "Do have any Power Rangers toys?"
Embarrassed that we were not yet ready for the season, I had to admit
that they were not in. "Do you know where to buy Power Ranger Toys?"
"Yes, you can also get them online".
The writing was on the wall. This was going to happen again, I just
knew it. She wasn't going to leave without something. She quickened her
steps up and down the aisles, this time even faster. I tried to avoid
her by heading to the stock room in the back, but just as I reached for
the door handle I heard that frantic voice again.
"Sir… Do you have any Pokemon cards?"
I said, "let me look in the stock room", before I could get away, she
asked, "Do you know where to buy Pokemon Toys?"
I said "Lady, the toys you have been asking for are slightly outdated
and we don't get them in until December or as a special order. However,
if you simply go to your computer you can simply do a Google search and
find out the stores online that sell these items."
She looked a bit taken off guard, and with a befuddled grimace, she
took another stroll through the aisles. This time her pace slowed down.
I heard her footsteps waddle back and forth to in a confused pattern.
She approached me for what
I hoped would be the last time, with a solemn embarrassed look, she
asked, "Sir, do you know where to buy computers?"
